Terms of Service
Last updated: August 26, 2026
These terms govern your use of Shareboxed: the website at shareboxed.app, the Shareboxed app for Mac, and the sharing links they produce. Shareboxed is operated from the Netherlands. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. Contact: support@shareboxed.app.
1. The service
Shareboxed lets you share files through links. Depending on the connection you choose, files are stored encrypted on our infrastructure, uploaded to storage you own, or served directly from your own device. Shares are temporary by design: a hosted share expires after at most 30 days, other shares after 7 days, and a share can carry a download limit. After expiry the share and everything we stored for it are deleted.
Parts of the service are free, and parts require a paid subscription (Shareboxed+). What each plan includes, including storage allowances and the number of simultaneous live links, is described on the pricing page and may evolve over time.
2. Your account
You sign in with an email address you control. You are responsible for what happens through your account and your signed in devices, and for keeping access to your email address and passkeys. One account is meant for one person.
3. Subscriptions and payment
Paid plans are sold by Polar, acting as merchant of record. Polar is the seller for payment purposes: it processes the payment, issues the invoice, handles VAT, and its terms apply to the purchase itself. Everything about the service itself, including these terms and your statutory rights regarding the service, remains between you and us. Billing questions go to the billing portal or Polar's support; service questions go to support@shareboxed.app.
Prices are shown before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel at any time through the billing portal, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. After a yearly subscription has renewed automatically, you can additionally cancel at any time with one month's notice, and we refund the unused months. With pay as you go enabled, usage above your plan's allowance is billed per started gigabyte, as stated on the pricing page.
As a consumer in the EU you have a statutory 14 day right of withdrawal from the moment you subscribe, exercised through Polar. If the service already started at your request, a proportionate amount for the period used may be deducted. A renewal of an existing subscription is not a new purchase.
If a subscription ends, links that already exist keep working until they expire on their own, but the allowance for new ones drops to the free tier.
4. Your content
Files you share remain yours. You grant us the limited licence needed to operate the service: to store, transmit and process your files and their metadata solely to provide the sharing you asked for. We claim no other rights to your content.
You are responsible for the content you share and for having the rights to share it. You are also responsible for who you give a share link, and where applicable its password, to: anyone holding them can download the files while the share is live.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use Shareboxed to:
- store or distribute content that is unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights, including copyright;
- distribute malware or content intended to harm people or systems;
- circumvent limits, probe or disrupt the service, or resell it;
- share content involving the abuse of minors, which we report where the law requires.
We may remove content or end shares, and suspend or terminate accounts, when we reasonably believe these terms are violated or the law requires it. To report abuse or an infringing share, email support@shareboxed.app with the exact link, an explanation of why you believe the content is unlawful, your name and email address, and a statement that your report is made in good faith. We review reports promptly and can end a share immediately.
When we remove content or restrict an account, we tell the affected user what we did and why, unless the law prevents it, and they can respond through the same address. support@shareboxed.app is our single point of contact under the Digital Services Act, for users and authorities alike, in English and Dutch.
6. Your own storage and your own device
Connections to storage you own (such as S3 compatible buckets, cloud drives, FTP or WebDAV servers) work with credentials you provide. Those credentials stay on your device; the one exception is the read credential for an S3 compatible connection with sharing links switched on, which we store and use as described in the privacy policy. That storage, its configuration, its costs and its contents remain your responsibility. Direct shares are served from your own device, so their availability depends on your device being online.
7. No backup service
Shareboxed is for sharing, not for safekeeping. Shares expire and are then deleted. Keep your own copies of anything you upload.
8. Availability and changes
We aim for the service to be reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we may change or discontinue features. None of this affects your statutory rights regarding the conformity of the service. If we discontinue the paid service as a whole, running subscriptions are wound down or refunded for the unused period.
9. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under law, including liability for intent or gross negligence, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.
Beyond that, our liability for damages connected to the service is limited to the amounts you paid for it in the twelve months before the event, with a minimum of EUR 50, and we are not liable for indirect damage, including lost profit or business interruption, or for loss of data that results from a share expiring or being deleted as these terms describe (see article 7).
10. Privacy
How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.
11. Ending
You can stop using Shareboxed and delete your account at any time, on the account page. Deleting your account cancels a running subscription; whether anything is refunded follows article 3. We may terminate the agreement in the cases named in article 5, and otherwise with at least 30 days' notice, in which case we refund the unused part of any period you paid for. Provisions that by their nature should survive, such as articles 4 and 9 and the choice of law in article 12, survive the end of the agreement.
12. Changes to these terms and applicable law
We may amend these terms; for meaningful changes we notify account holders by email at least 30 days before they take effect, and continuing to use the service after that counts as acceptance. If a change is to your disadvantage and you do not accept it, you can end your subscription before it takes effect and we refund the unused part of the period you paid for.
Dutch law applies. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, without limiting any right you have as a consumer to bring or face a claim in your own country.
